A feud between anti-spam NPO Spamhaus and Dutch hosting firm Cyberbunker resulted in Spamhaus’ 80+ servers getting hit by the largest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack in history which peaked at 300 gb/s, slowing down the global internet.
Microsoft announced a major overhaul for their CRM solution at the recent Dynamics Convergence 2013 event in the US. Two corporate acquisitions get integrated into Dynamics – Marketing Pilot’s automated marketing tools and NetBreeze for Social Media monitoring in 28 languages including Japanese and Chinese. Finnish startup Presefy just launched a promising web-based service that lets you control PowerPoint presentations with your smartphone or tablet without having to install an app. Remote audiences can watch and interact with the presentations live in their browser.
The Chinese government announced it will begin work on a national PC OS based on Ubuntu, one of the world’s most popular free, Linux-based Operating Systems. ‘Ubuntu Kylin’ is part of a long-term plan to create a domestically focussed OS, wean users off Microsoft and Apple systems, and promote the use of free and open-source software in China. Development will take place in a Beijing lab staffed by engineers from China and UK company Canonical, the creators of Ubuntu.
